How STOP, START, and HELP Work for Your Texts

How STOP, START, and HELP Work for Your Texts

When a lead replies STOP to one of your texts, SiteStakes handles it for you and stops texting them right away. Here's what STOP, START, and HELP do. Honoring these requests is required by law, and SiteStakes takes care of it automatically.

What happens when a lead texts STOP?

They're added to your SMS opt-out list, and SiteStakes won't text them again — not your lead alerts, not your drips. The lead also gets an automatic reply confirming they're unsubscribed. STOP isn't the only word that works: UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, and QUIT all do the same thing. You don't have to lift a finger, and you shouldn't try to text that person again. This keeps you on the right side of the law — see getting consent before texting leads.

How does a lead opt back in?

If they change their mind, they reply START, and SiteStakes removes them from your opt-out list and sends a quick confirmation. After that, they can get your texts again. UNSTOP, SUBSCRIBE, and YES work the same way.

What about HELP and normal replies?

If a lead replies HELP, SiteStakes sends a short message explaining how to stop or resubscribe. Any other reply isn't an opt-out. It's logged on the lead's timeline, and you're notified, so you can follow up personally. A normal reply doesn't stop your drip texts, so keep an eye on your replies and answer the ones that matter. Common questions

Do I need to do anything when a lead opts out?+
No. It's automatic, and honoring opt-outs is required by law. SiteStakes adds them to your SMS opt-out list and skips them everywhere.
Will an opted-out lead still get my lead alerts or drips?+
No. Once someone opts out, every text skips them — your lead alerts and your drips — until they reply START.
Does a normal reply opt someone out?+
No. Only the opt-out words do that: STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, or QUIT. A normal reply is logged and you're notified, but your texts keep going.
